Paralyzed woman dies trapped in her hot car with two kids
A paralyzed Missouri woman died on Saturday after her car ran out of gas on the highway during extremely hot weather. She could not get out of the car and succumbed to the heat.
Megan Oxley, 36, was driving with her niece and nephew when her car stopped working.
Because of not having a massage from the day her sister couldn’t reach her or the children the next morning, so they contacted the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department.
“I just assumed that maybe she stayed with someone or maybe someone had come and got her, but no one was able to get a hold of her,”
“And the next morning, we were pretty panicked, we called the cops and got them involved.”
Even though Oxley’s phone was dead, the sheriff’s department managed to locate it near County Road 522. The footprints outside the car showed that the children had gotten out at some point.
The children were taken to a local hospital for heat exhaustion and they are safe. Unfortunately, Oxley was found dead in the driver’s seat.
“I am so thankful, I am so happy she is alive, I was terrified, very terrified.”
Megan’s sister, Melissa
Later revealed that the children, due to their young age, couldn’t fully comprehend the danger of the situation. They had tried to help Oxley, but her paralysis and their age made it unsuccessful. The children are now recovering well.
Oxley’s family expressed both relief for the safety of the children and deep sorrow for the loss of their sister. They remembered her as a vibrant and happy person.
“She was happy when I saw her last, she was smiling and talking to me,” Melissa recounted. “She was just so full of life.”
Expressing her sadness on Facebook, Amber further released her feelings.
“Why do I have to live in a world where my siblings don’t? Why did they have to leave me so soon?” she asked on Saturday.
“My world is shattered. I am broken. I don’t know how we’re going to get through this.”
“Megan Oxley we always promised we would be sisters and best friends,”
“Life got in the way sometimes, but I never pictured my world without you. Even though you always made fun of my freckles and teased me for being younger, you were the big sister who I could always count on.
“I’ll love you forever.”
