Maybe you’re an avid cyclist and still haven’t found a way to carry your helmet. Now origami inspired Raba 3 D helmet that can fold flat into your handbag or laptop takes away your worries.

The Raba helmet is developed by South Korean firm Nature Mobility. It can inflate from flat design to helmet like 3D shape within a matter of seconds.

The helmet that uses a honeycomb structure is comfortable and very protective. Also it can be adjusted to fit the size of the head.

Nature Mobility first introduced this foldable helmet in the crowd funding platform Wadiz. However since becoming a hot item at Red Dot Design Awards its stock has gone up.

How the helmet works

Raba helmet is made up from EPS foam and ABS thermoplastic like most such helmets. However, a series of small diamond and triangle panels held together by a tarpaulin fabric makes it different from other types of helmets.

The RABA structure is held together by a BOA wire system from the South Korean firm Windwire. Twisting the Windwire dial tightens the small pieces together to form the helmet within as little as 10 seconds.

The helmet folds even more quickly, you just have to loosen the Windwire dial. Within a second or two the helmet shrinks down to about a third of its original volume.

Award Winner

Despite beginning at a crowdfunding platform, Raba helmet won a Red Dot Design Award and also became a finalist for IDEA award.

It is still not certain as to when the helmet would hit the market, though Nature Mobility says that it had been certified for many helmet safety standards.

In conclusion RABA is a South Korean made foldable helmet inspired by origami and it is highly protective yet can be carried in a handbag or a laptop.
