What would a colony on the Moon look like by 2040?

An Argentinian-American businessman has come up with the idea of colonizing the Moon with the mission of creating a basic habitant on the Moon’s surface by 2031. Similarly, NASA expects people to live in the Moon’s dwellings by 2040.

Guillermo Söhnlein, the co-founder of the Titan submersible company OceanGate, developed this idea called Project Moon Hut. He envisions creating a sustainable future for humans by transforming the Moon into a habitable place. 

The colony on the Moon will be a combination of advanced and sustainable technologies designed according to the unique condition of the Moon. 

This project will expand the human presence on space and advance technological and scientific capabilities. 

The roadmap to a Moon colony

The duration it takes to establish human presence on the Moon depends on the sources and the unique conditions of the Moon. However, in 2031, Guillermo Söhnlein planned to establish a basic hut on the Moon’s surface with eight people. 

Guillermo Söhnlein has a vision to establish a mini-city with 578 people on the moon by 2046 and a thriving community with 1644 people in 2063.

By 2040, NASA plans to construct accommodations for astronauts and civilians with specialized building materials from the Moon. 

Key challenges

To establish a human presence on the Moon, researchers and scientists have to face several challenges. It includes transportation, technological, and environmental-related challenges. 

Utilizing resources, which are crucial to human lives, and overcoming health-related issues will also be challenging. These challenges and risks demand innovative solutions to advance human capabilities in space.

To sum it up, Guillermo Söhnlein developed the idea of colonizing the Moon, and NASA says people can live in lunar houses by 2040. This plan creates a pathway to establish the long-term survival of our species.
