Two 17-year-olds, Victoria Ou and Justin Huang from The Woodlands, Texas, have invented a groundbreaking device that removes up to 94% of microplastics from water using sound waves. Their compact system traps pollutants like polystyrene and polyethylene without chemicals or traditional filters, letting clean water flow through. It’s a jaw-dropping solution to a global crisis!
Inspired by a visit to a local water treatment plant, the duo showcased their innovation at the 2024 Regeneron ISEF in Los Angeles.
“We wanted to create something sustainable to help communities worldwide,” said Victoria Ou, reflecting on their mission.
Experts at ISEF were stunned, awarding them the Gordon E. Moore Award for Positive Outcomes for Future Generations, plus a $50,000 prize.
Imagine a world where every drop of water is free from plastic pollution—could this invention be the key? Share your thoughts on how this could change lives!
