A feature he learned to celebrate
Özyürek grew up in Artvin, Türkiye, and faced teasing when he was young. As an adult, he embraced the feature that made him different and spoke about it with humour and pride.
He also said his sense of smell was unusually strong, allowing him to identify food cooking before others noticed it.
Measuring the record
Guinness World Records first recognized him in 2001 and later confirmed the 8.8-centimetre measurement on Italian television. The measure follows a defined line from the bridge to the tip—not the full contour of the nose.
More than an odd statistic
Özyürek used attention to represent his hometown and encourage self-acceptance. His story was never only about anatomy; it was about choosing whether difference becomes shame or identity.
The record after his death
Özyürek died in 2023. Guinness later described the living-person category as open, while his measurement remains part of record history.
