This wearable robot walks and fits itself perfectly on disabled users

Korean researchers have developed a wearable robot that walks and fits for disabled people. This innovation improves the quality of the life of individuals facing mobility challenges.

Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology’s researchers have developed this WalkON suit FI, and it was designed by Professor Hyunjoon Park.

This robot has unique features such as frontal-docking method, autonomous mobility, active balance control, and advanced motion control algorithms. These advanced features enhance the functionality of this suit.

WalkON Suit F1 provides stability, safety, independence, and empowerment for its users.

How does WalkON Suit F1 functions?

This robot is integrated with sensors and motors; when the user is ready to wear the suit, it moves near him/her and allows for easy wearing. The sensors allow the suit to properly position itself near the wearer.

Sensors such as gyroscopes and accelerometers continuously monitor the wearer’s positions and enhance the balance and control using the real-time data. If the user bends one side, this suit will adjust the system accordingly and maintain balance.

A high-power motor provides enough power to navigate various challenging surfaces. Reducers ensure balanced force generation and maintain stability.

Advanced algorithm technology identifies barriers and generates a safe route for the user to navigate. The autonomous mobility capability makes it easier to handle difficult routes.

Core benefits

WalkON Suit F1 enhances the independence of the user by eliminating mobility assistance. This suit allows the user to walk at a speed of 3.2 km per hour, which is equal to the normal walking speed of a person.

It can prevent falls and maintain balance of the wearer. The support and stability of the system boost the confidence of the users and encourage them to move freely.

The hands-free feature of the WalkON Suit F1 allows the users to engage in more activities.

To sum it up, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology has developed a wearable robot that walks and fits for disabled people. WalkON Suit F1 improves users physical and mental wellbeing and the quality of their lives.
