Terrashroom Journey Before Shark Tank
Jared Steele’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2019 with his first tech project, Pombox. This early invention received a $28,000 federal grant to help users reduce phone time through a lockbox device.
Though Pombox didn’t take off, Steele found his true calling with Terrashroom. Initially working solo, he created a prototype, self-taught in CAD, and used 3D printing to bring Terrashroom to life.
“It was a weekend project at first,” he recalled, but demand quickly showed there was a genuine market for this device.
His project attracted early interest, resulting in thousands of pre-orders before the product was finalized.
“We had thousands of customers who paid in advance even when the final product was years from completion,” he noted.
An angel investor and a dedicated electrical engineer, James Elliott, enabled Steele to refine the prototype. In March 2024, a crowdfunding campaign raised $135,000 to support product development.
The Terrashroom device, which features an app interface, time-lapse camera, and durable polycarbonate housing, is designed for ease and safety.
