Hold onto your hats—Japanese scientists at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) have obliterated the internet speed record, clocking a staggering 1.02 petabits per second. That’s over 1 million gigabits, enough to stream 10 million 4K videos at once or transfer more data in a second than most countries do in a day!
This jaw-dropping feat was achieved using cutting-edge 19-core optical fiber technology over a distance of 1,808 km.
“This result demonstrates the potential of multi-core fibers for long-haul, ultra-high-capacity transmission,” said a spokesperson from NICT.
Tech enthusiasts on Reddit are losing their minds, with one user calling it ‘the death of buffering forever.’ The hype is real!
Could this be the dawn of a new internet era? Imagine lightning-fast cloud gaming, real-time global VR, and AI processing with zero lag. While still in the lab, commercial rollout might not be far off. What would you do with internet this fast? Let’s dream big!
