Read on to discover all about Teen Patti. You’ll discover how to get started with this hit card gambling game, tips and tricks and a whole more.

What is Teen Patti?

Teen Patti is a gambling card game that originates from India. It gained a huge following there and spread to other countries in Southeast Asia. Teen Patti is also commonly known as ‘Flush’ or even ‘Flash’. The premise of the game is a stripped-bare version of three-card poker, making the popular casino game faster and simpler to learn.

How do you play Teen Patti?

The game of Teen Patti is almost always played with between 3 and 6 players, using your standard 52-card deck that has had the jokers removed. Sharing a similarity with other rummy and poker-style games, you start the game by placing a bet. This bet will usually be an agreed-upon amount before any cards are even dealt.

After the player whose turn it is has placed their bet and the casino takes the boot amount from every player, all players in the game are dealt three face-down cards. This boot amount is the smallest amount of money that is to be put at stake in that round and is placed in the pot, which is set at the center of the table.

Once all of the players have their three cards, the next move is for each player to state whether they would like to call or raise. If you’ve ever played poker at all, you’ll be familiar with these mechanics.

Calling is a way for players to stay in the game without having to raise the bet. Raising is exactly as it states – raising the last bet amount and adding more cash into the overall pot.

There are subtle changes in Teen Patti though. Unlike poker, all bets made have to be in equal amounts. So if one player bets 2 coins and another player bets 4, the original player will have to bet another 4 coins instead of just 2 like he would have had to in poker.

Over time, the pot will grow as the game goes on. Upon completion and the betting rounds are through, whichever player is still in the game and has the best hand ranking wins. Similar to Poker, the rankings go from highest to lowest, which we’ll get into now.

The Rules of Teen Patti

In Teen Patti, aces are the highest card and 2 is the lowest. The whole object of the game is to have the highest-ranking 3-card hand whilst driving the pot up as much as possible before that game comes to an end.

The hand rankings are:

A Set or Trail – Any three cards of the same rank. Three aces would be the highest and three two’s would be the lowest.

Straight Flush or Pure sequence – Three cards that run consecutively in the same suit.

A Run or Sequence – Three cards that run consecutively but not in the same suit.

Pair – Simply two cards of the same rank. If there are two pairs shown by opposing players, the highest value is the winner. If both pairs are equal, then the highest kicker card wins.

High Card – If no one has any of the above hands, then it comes down to whoever has the highest ranking card. If two players both have the same high card, then it moves to the next highest card in each player’s hand.

Conclusion

As you can see, the rules or Teen Patti are like a much more beginner friendly version of classic Poker. This doesn’t detract from any of the fun though and if you ever find yourself wanting to play a simple yet fun card game, be sure to give it a shot.
