In addition, this week’s list is chock-full of springtime delights.

Have the spirit of Athletes at the Penn Relays

The Penn Relays, a historic track meet conducted each spring since 1895 and one of Philadelphia’s trademark yearly sporting events, attracts athletes from all over the world, including many present and prospective Olympians. Franklin Field, the oldest college stadium in the United States — and previous home of the Philadelphia Eagles — hosts the Penn Relays and is home to the country’s first scoreboard. The three-day event begins on April 28 and concludes on April 30, 2022, with a festival that includes food, sports booths, souvenirs, and more.

Experience the Beauty of Lights by Visual Artist (Bruce Munro) at Longwood Gardens

Artist Bruce Munro comes to Longwood Gardens in the picturesque countryside of Philadelphia to offer Light: Installations by Bruce Munro, an altogether new and spectacular installation. Longwood’s 1,000 acres will be home to eight displays, including the garden’s stunning internal areas and outdoor vistas. The Field of Light, which features 18,000 light bulbs gracing the landscape in the middle of the lakes and around the gardens, is open to visitors. From June 30 through October 30, 2022, the light will be on display. Moreover, various events of live music in Philadelphia are held in this garden.

Feel the Essence of Nature in America’s Garden Capital

With 37 public gardens and historic landscapes all within 30 miles of the city, the Philadelphia region has more gardens in close vicinity than anywhere else on the continent. Chanticleer, a 35-acre estate within a short drive from downtown Philadelphia, opens for the season on March 30 and will be open to visitors until October 30, 2022. The Morris Arboretum at the University of Pennsylvania offers year-round family-friendly activities such as scavenger hunts & building activities in the arboretum’s Fairy Woods. The Scarecrow Walk in the fall, as well as the Holiday Garden Railway in the winter, are two special seasonal activities at the arboretum.

Don’t Miss out to be in a Show of Color and Creativity at the Philadelphia Flower Show

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Philadelphia Flower Show, the nation’s largest and longest-running horticultural festival, will be held in South Philadelphia for the second year in a row from June 11 to 19, 2022. The show’s theme is In Full Bloom, which highlights the healing potential of plants and nature. Tickets are currently on sale.

Explore the Chinese Culture at the Chinese Lantern Festival

The Chinese Lantern Festival will return to Philadelphia’s Franklin Square from June 21 to August 7, 2022. The festival, which first arrived in Philadelphia in 2016, filled the space with giant handmade lantern exhibits. Again it’s set to light up the night once more near Independence Mall and Chinatown. Thousands of individual lanterns will be illuminated by tens of thousands of LED lights in dozens of shows that will span the grounds. Dancers, contortionists, martial artists, and other performers will perform for guests, as well as live demonstrations and artwork for sale by Chinese folk artists.
