Are They Worth The Money?

As a parent, considering buying one of these, you may be curious if it is worth the money. For the most part they are totally a wide investment and are not at all a waste of money. They are an investment in your kids, and their childhood.

How Much Do They Cost?

Power wheels can cost anywhere from $200 to $1000, how much in this price range will depend on the brand, the quality, the features and more. 

But do not buy one over another just because it is expensive, just because one set of Power Wheels has a hefty price tag on it, does not mean that it will be better than one with a lower price tag. 

Some cheap Power Wheels can be better in some ways than their more expensive alternatives. 

The smaller sizes will obviously be cheaper, due to the materials needed to make it. And you can be expected to pay $500 upwards for a Power Wheels car with more features, such as sound effects, lights, or a remote control. 

How Do They Work?

For the most part, Power Wheels are battery operated. They will have a motor, a gear and brake system, and a DC-DC converter, as well as a steering wheel, and a speed controller. 

They work with a button or even a car key, making your kid feel just like a grown up. 

You will often find there is a DC-DC converter that will control how much power that reaches the motor. Obviously this is a safety feature as no one wants to see their toddler zooming around at 15mph in their yard.

There is a speed controller which will regulate how much voltage is sent to the motor via pulse-width modulation. 

Power Wheels Vs Terrain

So, can they tackle unique terrains? 

Well, they are able to go on grass just fine, although the smaller cars may not have enough traction to handle it well. The grass should not be too bumpy or uneven. The big and heavier ones may also struggle, but they should still do fine. 

They are also water-resistant for the most part, thanks to high quality plastic materials. That being said, if the wires are exposed to water then there can be damage done to its electrical system and its battery.

For those living in northern areas, what about snow? Well, in snowy conditions your Power Wheels should stay indoors with you. It is not advised to use these in snowy conditions as there will not be enough traction, and they will likely get stuck. 

It can also cover them which will damage their motors and batteries. So it is best avoided.
