Believe it or not, the job of a TikTok influencer is actually pretty simple. All you really need to do to become an influencer is to upload content, have people see it, and then have brands approach you in order to partner with them and sell their products through your content. Of course, we’re being deliberately glib; it’s actually very difficult to become a TikTok influencer and to maintain a position of influence through what is essentially an extremely changeable market.

There’s arguably never been a better time to chase TikTok glory than now. Despite an extremely strong 2020, TikTok isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, with current estimates suggesting that TikTok has been downloaded approximately 2.6 billion times as of June 2021. That number is only going to increase, so if you’re an influencer looking to expand your patch, it’s time to get in on the ground floor. Here’s how you can become a TikTok influencer.

Amass followers

The first and most important step to becoming a TikTok influencer is to build up a following on the platform. This isn’t always easy; there’s fierce competition, and everyone’s looking for the next viral hit. That’s why you should consider using a service like TikFreeFollowers, which brings organic followers straight to you so you don’t have to work twice as hard as you need to. This service won’t bring bots, either; it only adds genuine accounts, so you’ll never get mass unfollows like you do with other services.

Post content regularly

Building a portfolio of TikTok content is just as important as having people to see it. After all, users don’t often delete TikTok videos unless it’s for good reason, and any new followers will almost certainly see the content you’ve posted in the past, so even if it doesn’t get any viewers when you post, you may get retroactive interest. It’s not just about posting a lot, though; you also need to make sure you’re posting at the right times, or you risk your content going unappreciated.

Reach out to brands first

You might not want to sit around waiting for brands to contact you. Once you start building your profile, you’ll find that brands will get in touch and ask you to cooperate on campaigns with them, but until then, you’ll need to be more proactive. Reach out to brands you feel match your TikTok aesthetic and overall “mission statement” (it sounds pretentious, but it’s good to have one!). Talk to them about collaborating. You’d be surprised how amenable many of them may be!

Put effort into editing your content

Editing is what will set you apart from the TikTok masses. Anybody can simply film themselves doing something, then upload it to their TikTok account, but not everyone has a flair for creativity. TikTok’s video editing suite may not be as comprehensive as some expensive programs out there, but it is teaching many users the basics of video editing, so it’s good enough for that at least. Make sure you’re putting in transitions, effects, and other editing tweaks into your videos on a regular basis.

Emphasise engagement over vanity metrics

Some will tell you that follower and like counts are the most important statistics in the world when it comes to social media. Don’t get us wrong; they are very important, and you won’t get far if you don’t have a lot of followers. However, they’re not everything. An account with two hundred followers but lots of comments will look more appealing to a prospective brand partner than an account with a hundred thousand followers and zero engagement. Be sure to ask for comments on your content!

Follow trends and create your own

People like to see you hit common trends that are circulating on TikTok, so make sure you’re checking what’s popular in the app at any given time. It’s also a good idea to try and create your own trends where you can. This is an extremely difficult thing to do, though, so if your first few (or even few hundred!) attempts fail, don’t be disheartened. However, if you can be traced as the originator of a popular trend, then you’re going to skyrocket in terms of fame and influence on TikTok.

Take influence from others, but don’t copy

TikTok rewards individuality to a much greater degree than other social media networks do. Your followers on TikTok like to see you creating content they’ve never seen before, and they like it when you express your unique personality; after all, it’s what made them follow you in the first place! With that said, there’s nothing wrong with taking inspiration from other content creators, just as long as you don’t simply steal their ideas and repurpose them as your own.

Break the mould

There’s only one thing TikTok users love more than trends and hashtags, and that’s people who completely disregard them. One way to express your individuality on TikTok is to try and create something that’s never been done before. Make a video that has no precedent and that’s going to be really hard to follow. Only you can know what the concept of that video should be, but it’s good to deviate from TikTok’s standard subject matter of lip-sync challenges and dance crazes if you can.

We hope these tips and tricks on how you can become a TikTok influencer have been helpful. Where are you on your TikTok journey? Are you still working towards becoming TikTok famous?
