Georgia's Stone Mountain Park

Anyone who lives in Georgia and still hasn’t been to Stone Mountain Park is making a big mistake. This park is Georgia’s most popular tourist destination, with 3,200 acres of various outdoor activities. On a bright day, one can see up to 45 miles from the mountain’s summit. The Stone Mountain itself is the world’s most comprehensive uncovered chunk of granite. Except for that, you will undoubtedly have a great time with the multitude of available attractions. Let’s take a closer look at the different activities that are open for you.

What are the different attractions?

Since the park is excellent for anyone looking for an outdoor adventure, you can pick from these family-friendly fun attractions.

Mowgli’s 4D Jungle Adventure

When Mowgli, a brave boy raised by wolves, learns that his tiger cub mates are in danger of being kidnapped by cruel poachers, he sets out on his most courageous venture yet. Mowgli’s pack of surprising forest friends, including a vicious tiger, a loving elephant, a silly sloth, and a fearsome black panther, hatch a scheme to defend the tiger cubs, resulting in comedic mayhem. With this unique experience, you can explore characters like Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera, and Shere Khan.

Summit Skyride

This high-speed Swiss cable car is worth the wait, although it needs a scheduled booking. You’ll climb 825 feet over the ground level to the pinnacle of Stone Mountain once you’ve started. You can see Atlanta’s landscape from up to 96 kilometers out, which is a breathtaking sight. The cable car, though, is closed while the weather is overcast.

Scenic Railroad

This 1940s locomotive is just what you need if you’re looking for some tranquillity. The full-size train will take you on a five-mile journey across Stone Mountain Park. You will look out the open cabins at Stone Mountain and the stunning scenery that surrounds it. The trip lasts for around half an hour and includes prompt arrivals and departures at Crossroads’ Marketplace Depot.

Locomotive Chase Golf Adventure

You can easily spend your time on the 18 spaced holes on this mini-golf course. You will search for the locomotive while working your way across these spaced holes since the attraction takes a basis from the Great Locomotive Chase. The golf course blends in seamlessly with the charm of the crossroads thanks to several train-based architecture elements.

SkyHike

Despite the limited availability, this extra experience is well worth the wait. You’ll undoubtedly hit greater levels on one of the country’s most comprehensive exploration tracks. Since no two hikes are alike over here, each route you take will be unique. You will walk the quarter-mile of crossings and barriers while having the protection of a raised safety arrangement. There are three distinct height ranges to choose from, depending on an individual’s bravery. Trails with heights of 12 feet, 24 feet, and 40 feet are accessible.

Dinosaur Explore

Your trip starts in a time portal that transports people millions of years back in time. As you emerge from the time machine, you’ll be able to see most of the dinosaurs from the Jurassic period. Stone Mountain Park has a unique selection of twenty historical creatures. The best thing is that these gigantic beasts have action sequences that enable them to run and roar in the same way as their genuine counterparts.

Historic Square

This park’s historic square is home to some of Georgia’s best-preserved buildings. From about 1793 to 1875, these original structures underwent construction. For retaining the integrity and relevance of this attraction, the architectures are from their genuine locations. With the help of a self-guiding system, you can explore the charming square all by yourself. Except for heritage buildings, this location still houses the most extensive display of Georgian house decorations from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Are there any recreational activities?

The Stone Mountain attractions include a host of activities that will keep you entertained for the whole day.

Stone Mountain Lake Fishing

You have permission to fish endlessly as long as you’re at the lake from six in the morning to midnight. Bass, bream, catfish, crappie, and carp are all present in the waters, leading to some fantastic catch. Private boats also have a fishing authorization, which is suitable for those who want complete relaxation. The public boat ramp is right next to the Evergreen Pavilion, where you can release the boat. Any boat with an engine greater than ten horsepower, however, is not allowed on the lake.

18-Hole Golf Courses

Stone Mountain Golf Course is just a few minutes from downtown Atlanta, which might delight you. You’re guaranteed to have a pleasant evening, thanks to the spectacular scenery of the lake, as well as two championship-worthy golf courses. This activity is enjoyable because both of these courses have individuality. You will embark on a traditional test with the Stonemont course’s layout, which will put your strategy and accuracy to the test. The Lakemont course, at the other end, provides a less demanding format.

WalkUp Trail

Unless otherwise mentioned, this hiking trail is accessible from dawn to dusk. What you have to do now is follow the yellow-marked line and take in the breathtaking scenery. This mile hike to Stone Mountain’s peak is available to visitors looking for a bit more fun. On bright days, from 1,686 feet above the ground, you can see up to 60 miles away.

Picnic Spots

It’s pleasant to wind down and relax a bit after a busy day of outdoor sights and events. There are two dedicated picnic areas in the park where you can rest and refuel your tanks.

Over 200 tables are open at the Studdard Picnic Area, located across the Marnia Complex. On a first-come, first-serve system, you can occupy these tables free of charge. The public grills are for the general use of large crowds of individuals. Private grills, on the other hand, are only allowed in the designated picnic area. The Triangle Picnic Area, on the other hand, is the closest to the Crossroads area.

Stone Mountain Park’s Very Own Campground

For the people who love to stay outdoors, this park consists of one of the best experiences for camping in Georgia.

RV Rental Site

Enjoy the fun and convenience of RV camping without the nuisance and cost of owning a vehicle. Stone Mountain Park’s rented RVs are on a lovely forested property with a tranquil lake as a backdrop. These rentals are ideal for someone who wants to camp while also having all or most home comforts.

Safari Tent Rental Sites

The park’s safari tents offer a gratifying view of the lake and have an outstanding campsite. The tent rentals, made of wood and canvas, also provide a pleasant outdoor camping experience. These tents have a pre-set wooden foundation for your ease. Apart from that, the rental comes with furniture, lamps, fans, and electrical outlets. The deck’s extended platform comes with a fire pit, charcoal grill, and a picnic table.
