There have been many signs of progress that have happened in the electronics industry. This progress has ensured that there are the least problems in the electronic industry. It does not matter how precise a thing that you create, there are bound to be some problems. There are many certification courses and training modules in the market. If you pursue them, it will ensure that there are less problems in the electronic industry. However, all the training modules don’t guarantee that you will have no problems. You are bound to have some problems. The real challenge is how you address them when they pop up from time to time.

Before you go to address any errors, it is important for you to be aware of all errors that come up to you. If you have a deep understanding of errors, it will help you to eliminate them.

Below is the list of five common solder mistakes and how to solve them:

1.  Disturbed joint

Disturbing point is the result of the movement occurring in the alloy that is solidified. Because the disturbed point results in the hardness and roughness and it creates a ripple pattern on the surface of the alloy which indicates that there is an error. Movement occurring in the joints is the main cause of the mistakes. These reasons can be attributed to the mechanical, human or both can be involved.

To solve those mistakes, you are required to reheat the joints and cool them properly. If you want to remove the error, you have to find out the place from where the ripple is coming from and you have to make an effort to stabilize the soldering.

2. Untrimmed leads

Untrimmed leads themselves mean that they have quite long led that cause the errors to happen. As long leads are susceptible to coming in contact with the other leads that can lead to the short circuit and other issues in the lead. When the lead is uncut the possibility of it coming into contact with traces increases and it is something that can be avoided.

To solve it, you have to trim the leads that are not required and make sure that this process is followed regularly.

3. Cold solder joint

It is important for the solder to melt properly and if it does not melt properly then mistakes of the cold solder joint are bound to appear due to lack of proper supply of heat. Cold solder joints are hard and different in appearance. This solder mistake tends to weaken the joints, raising the chances of its failures. The mistakes can occur at any point of time and they can crack at any time.

4. Solder bridge

Solder bridge mistakes are the results of excessive application of solder. Excessive solder can result in joints melting leading to the mistake. Because of this, there is a break in the connection, affecting the overall function of the board. You have to ensure that there is only enough soldering present between the joints with a hot iron tip or solder wick. You can measure the amount of the solder required in the joints and you can use them to bridge the gap between the errors. With the proper testing you can easily detect the error.

5. Solder-starved Joint

In this, a solder does not have the sufficient solder. When you try to make the electrical connection, the amount of solder weakens the joint and increases the chances of failures and errors. You have to make sure that sufficient solder is present to avoid the possibility of the error.

To solve the mistakes, and to have the long term stability, you are required to reheat the joint and use more solder till the joint is strengthened.

Final words

If you check the boards from time to time, you can prevent the errors occuring there. However, if you think that you are well- qualified for this task or you are unable to detect the errors while errors are occurring then you can hire people who are well trained with the well certified course in the respective field. This will ensure that mistakes are detected and eliminated at the early stage of occurring them.
