Avoiding water signals to your body that there’s a water shortage and thus it begins to retain as much fluid as possible. 

Also water helps to keep you full and being virtually calorie free, this is ideal as it is likely to keep cravings and snacking at bay. 

Sleep Well 

When you don’t get enough sleep, not only are you cranky from a mental perspective, but your body also becomes stressed. Cortisol levels rise and this is bad news for anyone attempting to lose weight, because this is a fat-storing hormone. Not only does it promote weight gain, but all to the wrong places too. Thus, if you struggle to lose belly fat, you’re going to want to not cut short on your sleep and improve your hormone balance. 

Avoid Alcohol 

For best results avoid alcohol, as it will also raise stress levels in the body, due to the body detecting it as poison. 

This is why men are well-known to have ‘beer bellies’, which can be attributed to alcohol’s cortisol effect. 

Small amounts of alcohol are unlikely to play a big impact on your weight loss goals, but for maximum fat loss — none is optimal. 

Limit Sugar Intake 

Sugar causes blood sugar levels to spike and then quickly drop, causing further cravings later in the day. Thus, the best environment for a dieter is to feel full for as long as possible. 

Thus by reducing sugar intake, not only will you be reducing your calories, but you’ll also be increasing the chances of eating in a calorie deficit (as well as being healthier). 

Note: there’s no need to cut out healthy sources of sugar, like fruit, which still can be eaten in moderation. 

Avoid Netflix Bingeing 

Even if you don’t have netflix, but binge watch your favourite tv programmes for several hours regularly, then you need to be careful. 

It is very easy to not track how many calories you’re consuming when your mind is on your favourite programme. 

This is one of the easiest and sneakiest ways the body gains weight. 

So, if you really have to sit and watch TV for hours at a time, be conscious not to combine this with your favourite snacks. And if possible, don’t have them in your cupboards, which will save you this temptation!
